Hey guys! Today the Brawl Star team had a AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Reddit and they talked about the future of the game and current problems.
The teaming up on Showdown is still a big issue and I'm glad they are concerned about, at least on higher levels, but unfortunately I don't really think there is any easy solution. Bo should get a revamp pretty soon and Carl should be available by the end of the month. Until then, here is the complete preview.
I was also a big fan of the Life Leech, but unfortunately it seems to be gone for good.
Here are the most importante question, check it out!
Q: Why did you remove life leech?
A: Life Leech was removed primarily because it ‘breaks’ the core mechanics of the game. Showdown is now unlocked quite early for players (30 total trophies) and this modifier is a big change to how Brawl Stars is played. It’s confusing for new players to see themselves inexplicably losing health for no apparent reason.
Q: Will Carl be launched in the middle of the month, same as Gene?
A: A bit later than that, but in March still! :)
Q: Will Tara ever get a remodel?
A: Yes. :) The following Brawlers still require polish/reworks, in no specific order (but yes, Bo is a high priority). Bo, Crow, Darryl (base), El Primo, Pam, Piper, Tara.
Frank, Jessie and Penny also will see minor improvements.
Q: The Teaming in Solo Showdown is getting worse And worse In my opinion, despite you guys Year ago saying that you are fine with teaming, what's your Take on this?
A. BIG question, so we will have a big answer. First, we want to distinguish between a few types of teaming just to be sure we’re on the same page. Sometimes in Showdown a couple Brawlers may team up to better their odds against the others. At some point they’ll have to betray each other. Generally speaking, we’re fine with that and it’s an interesting tactical decision to decide when to betray them. However there’s something entirely different going on at very high trophy levels. In these games, the matches are dominated by teams, and you can’t really succeed without spinning. We hear your feedback that this isn’t fun.
SO - Are we going to ‘fix’ teaming? The answer is as complicated as the problem. First things first, we don’t have a perfect solution in mind. If we could instantly improve the mode by changing something then of course we would do that. But this magic solution eludes us. Instead let’s talk about some of your popular suggestions and our thoughts:
• BAN THE TEAMERS - This isn’t a great solution. First, we’re not sure that we can detect teamers with a high enough degree of accuracy. If we ban spinners, they’ll just use a different signal (shoot a wall, move left/right, etc). If we ban players who are near each other but don’t shoot for x amount of time, that can easily be overcome by just staying x tiles away from your teammates. Even if we could somehow be 100% accurate and very fast with bans, it still feels wrong. Ultimately players are playing in the construct we’ve built for them. Putting up artificial rules (and then banning for them) is a very bad experience.
• OFFER TROPHIES FOR KILLS - We've thought about this quite a bit and there are a few issues with offering one Trophy per kill. First and foremost, it really changes the strategy of the mode. Surviving last would no longer be the goal of Showdown, and it would almost become meaningless in the final moments when there are only a few Brawlers left. It would also feel pretty bad to get kills 'stolen' by other players. This would heavily favor certain Brawlers who can get the final shot, rather than players who really earned that kill. Finally, we're not sure that it would actually stop teaming since those on a team would be in a stronger position than those who aren't. It's a great idea! But in practice we don't believe it would have the intended effects on teaming.
• DELETE SHOWDOWN - This would be the nuclear option, and we would like to avoid it if we can. 84% of players who have Showdown unlocked play the mode at least once a week. So clearly the game mode is very popular.
If you have ideas for how to reduce teaming in high-level Showdown gameplay we are all ears! Let us know your ideas because this is an issue we really do want to tackle if we can.
Q: Hey! Are you guys doing something about improving the quality of clubs?
A: Not at this exact moment, but it's one item we want to revisit and discuss again. It's already on our list! :)
Q: Is there interest in bring activities or events that promote club teammwork like the clan wars in Clash Royale into Brawl Stars?
A: Interest - Definitely! Though we don't have a solid idea nailed down yet. We've brainstormed this a lot, but would love to hear ideas from you guys.
